"Higher Education in the Visual Arts for All"

The Academy of Art of Highland Park offers sophisticated art instruction in the studio tradition. The Academy offers art lessons to small groups of up to seven students. Classes are grouped by age and area of study. The Art Academy offers courses in drawing (covering over thirteen different media), watercolor, acrylic and oil painting. Students of all backgrounds are welcome regardless of ability or training. Our curricula stress various influences including:

Renaissance Italy's "Golden Age of Drawing"
Western and non-Western art relevant to drawing and painting
Contemporary philosophy and science of seeing and knowing (Visual Perception Studies)

By reconciling the old with the new, our curricula encourage the artist—beginner or professional—to explore the limits of drawing and painting in the Classical Western tradition, extend those limits and perhaps even surpass them.

In addition to exemplary art instruction, the Academy of Art of Highland Park and Gallery offers regular lectures, excursions to regional museums, as well as monthly in-house gallery exhibitions of our students' work. The Academy fosters a technically sound and aesthetically powerful climate for the development of artists of all ages.
